The Finest beat the Bravest at U.S. Cellular!
The Finest beat the Chicago Fire Department Bravest 13 - 4 at U.S. Cellular to cap their 2008 season on a winning note. The game was played in perfect weather in front of thousands of fans. The game was dedicated to the memory of Officer Richard Franics who died in the line of duty earlier this year.
As for the game, the Finest jumped out to a 1 - 0 lead when Eric Diaz scored on a CFD error. The Finest broke the game open in the third with four runs led by a Mike Barz double that drove in 2 runs. The Finest added 3 runs in the fifth on an rbi single by Mark Lamberg and a 2 rbi single by Dave Harris. The Finest added 3 more runs in the sixth on rbi singles by Barz, Mike Pettis, and Henry Devalle. The Finest finished their scoring in the eighth inning on a 2 rbi single by Casey Nolan. Jose Sanchez (2 hits 2 runs), Eric Diaz (2 runs), Mike Barz (4 hits, 3 Rbi's), Mike Pettis (2 hits, 2 runs), Pat Fahey (2 hits), Mark Lamberg (2 hits), Dave Harris (3 hits, 2 rbi's), and Casey Nolan (2 rbi's) led the Finest offensively.
The Finest also played good defense behind the pitching of Devalle, Varchetto, and Fahey. Devalle was brilliant again pitching four and third innings before leaving with an injury. Delvalle did not allow a run and struck out 7 of out of the 15 batters he faced. Devalle only allowed 2 hits. Anthony Varchetto pitched 2 and 2/3 innings and did not allow an earned run while stiking out four. Pat Fahey pitched the final two innings to seal the win for the Finest.
The Finest would like to thank all the attended this event and thank everyone for another great season. This was the ninth year of this event and it continues to get better every year.
