History of the Chicago Police Department Baseball Club

According to the Chicago Historical Society, the Chicago Police Department had a baseball team as far back as 1926. The Chicago Police Department Baseball Club was formed in 2001 to carry on this tradition and meet the demand of current sworn personnel to play competitive baseball. The goal of the club was to provide competitive baseball to department members and raise money for law enforcement charities. The Chicago Police Department Baseball Club is the only recognized baseball organization within the Chicago Police Department.

In 2008, the CPD Baseball Club will field one team named the FINEST. The Finest will return to play in the Chicago Central Suburban League in the American League. The Finest competed in this league from 2001 until 2005 and won two American League Championships (2002 & 2004). The Finest captured their third league championship in 2006 in the Midwest Suburban League.

An executive board oversees the operation of the club and organizes various activities for the members of the club. The executive board decided that in 2008 the charity the club will donate money to is the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. This excellent foundation is currently raising money to maintain the CPD Memorial which was dedicated in 2006 to all Chicago Police Officers killed in the line of duty or in the performance of duty. Please visit cpdmemorial.org for more details.

On the field, the CPD Baseball Club has had tremendous success. Since it`s rebirth, the Finest have won a national tournament in Michigan, three MSBL League Championships, beat the New York Police Department at Comiskey Park, beat the FBI in Maryland, beat the Las Vegas Police Department, and beat the Chicago Fire Department at U.S. Cellular Field. These are just some of the exciting accomplishments of the Finest on the field. However, the club`s most rewarding and impressive accomplishment has been what the club has done for charity. The Chicago Police Department Baseball Club has raised over $110,000 dollars for charity to date. This represents more money raised than any other Chicago Police Department Club or Organization in the same time span.

The CPD Baseball Club wishes to thank all of the players, families, friends, fans, and sponsors for making our club a tremendous success and providing our charities with thousands of dollars.

Good Luck on a great 2008 season!
